FAVE 5 ON 5 - 2015 OCTOBER

On the fifth day of each month a group of photographers shares their favorite photos from the previous month. It's a blog circle! At the end of this post will be a link to the next person. Read on and enjoy our favorites from October.

Meetups. Photowalks. Community.

Many years ago, before Instagram, I belonged to a photo community on Flickr. People in my community were from all over the world. It wasn't anything formal and we each found each other because of our love of taking photos. We posted daily photos (hello 365 projects) and participated in fun projects (color week, bench mondays, jump shots and flare). We commented on each other's posts and through all of this got to know not only each other's photo styles/likes/dislikes but also got to know each other as people as well. It was a magical time of sharing and learning about photography, while also getting to know some pretty cool people.

Four years ago the opportunity came along when lots of these friends took the journey to Camp Shutter Sisters. It was there that I met many of these photo friends in real life. It was at Camp that I also met other photographers who were actually living very close to me!

Camp was four years ago and the photographers in my area still try to meet at least a few times a year. Last month 4 of us met up again to walk and talk and take a few photos along the way...

Exploring light and dark places.

Some of the gear.

Meet up at the De Young Museum in Golden Gate Park.

From where I, we, stand.

The "non-pose pose", this time with a side of apples. A traditional non pose pose requires no smiling, which isn't always easy when you're running from a camera on a timer.

Walking and talking...

People bokeh.

A family of Keith Harings. And a family of tourists.

I'm so thankful for these local photo friends, as well as other photo friends far away. These friends don't judge when you stop to photograph that thing. They support you when you say can we go back to that spot? They play along when you ask them to stand there and look that way.
They just get it and I'm so thankful for that.

I hope to one day meet up with the photographers in this blog circle.
I've met one of them already, so I know it is possible.

Alison is one person I hope to meet, her and her little munchkin.
